See this guide: What To Do With Your Old FFEL Loans.

You likely want to consolidate the loan by December 31, 2023 so that you can be eligible for the repayment recount. That would likely see you be close to forgiveness (or at it).

I will not be getting any type of loan forgiveness at this current time. I figure if I set up the payment plan paying it in 10 years it would save me more in interest on the time I am paying them off. Just a lot to process.

Typically an income-driven repayment plan like SAVE is best. The real question is do you plan on getting any type of loan forgiveness, or do you plan on paying off the loans in the next few years? That’s the biggest decision on whether you should try to milk out the lowest possible payment (and maximize loan forgiveness), or simply snowball your debt and eliminate it. If you’re getting loan forgiveness in any amount, you don’t want to pay extra and throw good money away.

I currently have $27,632 worth of debt. All my student loans are through the federal government. I usually make around $43,000 a year. I am educating myself on all the options but I am still overwhelmed. Any good advice on what to sign up for?
